RIPE NCC Open House: Updating ICP-2
The Open House session on updating ICP-2 was held on Tuesday, 29 April. The RIPE community representatives on the Number Resource Organization Number Council (NRO NC), Hervé Clément, Andrei Robachevsky and Constanze Bürger, presented their work on updating ICP-2 and share an introduction to the draft "Governance Document for the Recognition, Maintenance, and Derecognition of Regional Internet Registries" which is intended to update ICP-2.
Community input on the draft document is invited via the RIPE Discussion list from 14 April until 27 May 2025.
Background Information
ICP-2 is the Internet Coordination Policy developed in 2001 through the Address Supporting Organization (ASO), with the assistance of APNIC, ARIN, and RIPE NCC to establish the criteria for the recognition of new Regional Internet Registries (RIRs). Historically, the criteria set forth was implicitly considered to be the standard that all RIRs must adhere to for the maintenance of their accreditation and recognition.
The Internet landscape has changed significantly over the last two decades. The Number Resource Organization Executive Council (NRO EC), in conjunction with the Address Supporting Organization Address Council (ASO AC), decided it was time to review and update ICP-2 to meet current needs.
More information on the process to update ICP-2 is available on the NRO website.
