RIPE NCC Report: Data Services Act
The Data Services Act (DSA) is a European Union regulation that sets clear responsibilities for online platforms and digital services to combat illegal content, enhance transparency, and protect user rights, ensuring a safer and fairer digital space.
Per the obligations of Article 16 of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065, otherwise known as the DSA, we introduced a notification mechanism on our website in 2024 that allows an individual or entity to notify us of the presence of content that they consider to be illegal on any of the webpages that we host.
DSA Transparency Report 2024
In 2024, we received 146 such DSA notices.
- 144 DSA notices related to content which was not on any of the webpages hosted by the RIPE NCC. We therefore did not take any action.
- One DSA notice requesting the removal of personal information contained within the requester’s own signature field in an email published as part of a RIPE mailing list archive. we complied with this request and removed the requester’s personal information as requested.
- 1 DSA notice requesting the removal of an email published as part of a RIPE mailing list archive that was alleged to contain defamatory information about the requester. Our analysis concluded that the content of the email could not be considered as illegal and therefore did not take action under the DSA. However, the content was considered to have infringed the RIPE Code of Conduct, and thus this content was removed by the moderators for this Reason
